			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This past weekend Mad Tiger Academy team members,  Eric &#8220;Mad Tiger&#8221; Goo, Jeremy Nitta and Steve Yuh traveled to Long Beach to compete in the IBJJF Long Beach Spring Open. Eric had several tough matches and battled it out earning bronze in his weight and the absolute. Jeremy absolutely killed it, submitting all of his opponents to reach the finals. In the finals he ran into a very tough competitor and ended up finishing second (his opponent had 5 matches and Jeremy was the only one not submitted!).  Steve, in his first competition ever, managed to run through the competition as well losing a close final and finishing second!</p>
<p>Jiu Jitsu is a journey and Eric&#8217;s and Jeremy are earning them frequent flier miles along the way! This is their second tournament in the mainland in two months and the experience will surely make them better!! Mahalo to every one for their support, we couldn&#8217;t have done it with out all of you!!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This Saturday The Mad Tiger Academy held its very first In House School Tournament for Kids &amp; Teens. The event was a fun and friendly event which included a few of our friends from Sunset Beach Jiu-Jitsu.</p>
<p>Using a unique friendship based points system and triple elimination format everyone who entered came away with a medal and much more valuable tournament rounds!</p>
<p>54 competitors in all had a blast sharpening their skills in multiple IBJJF<span id="more-848"></span> scored matches. The event was brought about to further sharpen our student’s skills in a tournament environment and to share all their talents and hard work in front of friends and family!</p>
<p>After the competition everyone got to enjoy multiple ethnic dishes brought in for the pot luck…UMMMM!</p>
<p>Along with the fun of competing this event helped raise Funds for Help Seana Tap Out Cancer and also for Mad Tiger parent Mike Prickett who was in a serious diving accident last March in Tahiti.</p>
<p>Due to the over whelming success of this event and positive feedback we are already planning our next event!!!</p>

With over 3200 competitors it was the biggest jiu jitsu event ever held!! All three had very tough draws and fought down to the wire. Their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice really showed and they looked phenomenal on the mat. Congrats to all three, we are proud of every one who competed and like to thank all those who help them along the way…<span id="more-839"></span></p>

After a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment Monica Oakley received her Orange Belt while Louis Oakley, Stevie Yuh, Dylan Cabral and Jarret Vasconcellos received their blue belts. Good luck guys and remember to enjoy the journey and keep training. The blue belt is the first step on the path to the black belt and also the last step for more than half the people who receive it! Keep training, never give up and work hard, it only gets better!</p>
<p>Also it was very special night for Kawika Samson who received<span id="more-824"></span> his purple belt. Kawika has had a unique and interesting journey having  started with Andre Derizan in a small garage in Waipahu many years ago. Through hard work, and perseverance he continued to train where ever he could and found a home at the Mad Tiger Academy in 2009.  Kawika is an integral part of the team, congrats on your promotion! 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On December 23rd, co-f0under and head of the Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu Association, Saulo Ribeiro, did a phenomenal seminar for association members and invited guest.  Saulo started off with a very effective and efficient warm up that got every one sweating. He then went into the technique portion, after the first sequence (guard posture, a few techniques to open closed guard, and a pass) every one was blown away. This was followed by more knowledge than any one could handle! Of all the seminars I have been too, this was one of the very few where<span id="more-772"></span> every one drilled non stop and would have kept drilling if  there was more time! Speaking of time,  although the seminar was scheduled for 3 hours, Saulo taught well beyond that to the delight of every one in attendance. At the end, he took questions and than talked philosophy of the association, jiu jitsu and how it relates to life.</p>
<p>A black belt is a white belt who never quit training, every day we are at the gym we are either closer to our black belt or closer to quitting, train smart, train right, keep training, and most importantly enjoy the journey! Great words of wisdom!!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The week of December 10th Mad Tiger Academy hosted multiple time world champ Caio Terra from the institute of martial arts (http://www.bjjsanjose.com/). Caio is the only 4 time no-gi world champ and one of the few light weights who competes and wins the absolute division regularly!</p>
<p>On Wednesday, December 7th he did a seminar for the children! In addition to teaching jiu jitsu concepts and fundamentals. Caio made sure to stress the most important thing, Jiu Jitsu should be fun. At the<span id="more-749"></span> end of the seminar Caio participated in a battle royal rolling with all the children at once!</p>
<p>On Saturday, December 10th, it was the adults turn to learn from the champ. Caio went over his signature Terra guard as well as the berimbolo. Every one who attended took something away! Huge Mahalo to  every one who came out to support and especially Caio, we look forward to your return visit to the Island!</p>
